Threefold Vine Winery
Threefold Vine Winery, owned and operated by the Green family, is pleased to offer you wine that has been lovingly grown on their Southern Upper Peninsula farm. The Garden Peninsula's cool springs and warm autumns in combination with loam soils over fragmented limestone bedrock have given opportunity to establish a vineyard and orchard with bee yard. The wine is crafted at the farm beginning with hand harvesting of the fruits to complete fermentation and bottling. The tasting room is open for free wine and mead samples and a chance to take home an honest U.P. wine.

Natural Wonders
Big Spring (Kitch-iti-kipi)
Two hundred feet across, the 40-foot deep Kitch-iti-kipi is Michigan's largest freshwater spring. Over 10,000 gallons a minute gush from fissu res in the underlying limestone. The flow continues throughout the year at a constant 45 degree Fahrenheit. By means of a self-operated observation raft, visitors are guided to vantage points overlooking fascinating underwater features and fantasies. Ancient tree trunks, lime-encrusted branches and fat trout appear suspended in nothingness as they slip through crystal waters far below. Clouds of sand kept in constant motion by gushing waters create ever-changing shapes and forms, a challenge to the imagination of young and old alike.
ATV/Snowmobiling
The Nahma Grade Snowmobile Trail: 31 miles
It is marked and groomed for your winter enjoyment. Connections can be made to other trails to increase your total ride. These trails are maintained jointly by the USDA Forest Service and the Michigan Department of Natural resources. Grooming of the trail is done by the Michigan DNR. Maps and regulations are available at the District Rangers Office or the Supervisor's Office of the Hiawatha National Forest. The trail head is on I-40 near County Road 509, 2 miles east of Rapid River, in Delta County. The first segment is 11 miles long and is located on a natural gas pipeline. It passes through lowlands, stands of jack pine, and sand flats. Near Forest Highway 13, the trail takes you north 20.3 miles to connect with the Baldy Lake Trail at County Road 440. Much of this segment uses the old abandoned logging railroad grades.
Baldy Lake Trail: 13 miles
The Baldy Lake Trail begins 1 mile off M-94 along the Coal Wood Trail and proceeds south to Delta County Road 440 where it links with the Nahma Grade Trail. Phone, fuel, and food are available 1/4 mile west of the trail on FR-2254. Phone, food, and supplies are also available along FH-13, 1 mile east of the intersection of Baldy Lake Trail and Delta County Road 440.
The Stonington Peninsula (West of Nahma)
The Stonington Peninsula, over 15 miles long, extends out into Lake Michigan just east of Rapid River, forming Little Bay de Noc to its west and, to the east, Big Bay de Noc. Most of the peninsula is far enough from U.S. 2 to remain undeveloped. As farms are abandoned, its interior is becoming wilder.
Stonington's campgrounds and beaches are convenient to U.S. 2. It's a scenic drive along County Road 513 to its southern tip, Peninsula Point and its lighthouse tower and picnic area. It's an excellent place to see migrating birds and butterflies.
The Garden Peninsula (East of Nahma)
Fayette, the picturesque iron smelting "ghost town," is toward the tip of the 21-mile-long Garden Peninsula. The peninsula gets its name because its fertile land, together with Lake Michigan's moderating waters all around it, made it better suited for farming and orchards than most Upper Peninsula locales. The temperatures are more like that of mid-Michigan 150 miles to the south. And the microclimate is akin to the wine regions of Leelanau County and the Old Mission Peninsula. Winemaker Ralph Stabile is looking for Garden land for the U.P.'s first commercial vineyard. |
